Valentino Sets the Scene

by Jessica Iredale
Often it’s the supporting characters who give the most powerful, nuanced performances in highly acclaimed films and television series. As such, to share the remarkable world of the Maison and bring Pierpaolo Piccioli’s work to life, Valentino has integrated a strategic partnership with Netflix and HBO Max to incorporate signature pieces from the ready-to-wear and Haute Couture collections into important scenes in “And Just like That,” “Emily in Paris and “Don’t Look Up.” The clothes and accessories enhance the storyline, enrich the characters and create a tailor made experience between the viewer and Valentino that stokes curiosity about the designs.

AND JUST LIKE THAT

In a pivotal scene set on Paris' Pont des Arts bridge in the finale of “And Just Like That,” Carrie Bradshaw wears the Fiore di Pesco orange fluo and rose taffeta gown with puffed sleeves from Spring/Summer 2019 Haute Couture. According to Love the Sales, a fashion e-commerce aggregator, searches for “Valentino dresses” increased by 1,085 percent after the episode aired, while searches for “long orange dresses” also increased by 194 percent. Valentino is woven into the ambience throughout the series. When the audience is introduced to Seema Patel, the glamorous and powerful real estate broker who befriends Carrie, she is wearing the Valentino Garavani Roman Stud Top Handle Bag, gold Valentino Garavani VLogo Signature Belt and Valentino Garavani Double Rockstud Wedges, all of which serve to underscore Seema’s confident, fearless individualism.

EMILY IN PARIS

For the second season of Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” the characters are having as much fun with their wardrobes as they are with their French and American cliches. Looks from the Valentino Roman Palazzo collection, as well as Valentino Gravani Roman Stud and Valentino Garavani Rockstud Alcove shoes and accessories, are used to illustrate the youthful, carefree spirit of Lily Collin’s Emily and Camille Razat’s Camille.

DON’T LOOK UP

In the case of Netflix’s “Don’t Look Up,” Pierpaolo’s creations heighten the star-studded ensemble cast’s caricatures. When Leonardo di Caprio transforms from schlubby professor to slick pundit, he wears a Valentino tuxedo. When Ariana Grande parodies a spoiled pop star, she wears the Valentino Of Grace and Light Haute Couture gown in silk chiffon with white feathers, and custom Valentino Rockstud look.

Collaborating with such beloved and widely viewed platforms as Netflix and HBO Max is a powerful way to engage a contemporary community and to be relevant today.
