VALENTINO'S NEW CHAPTER

GOODBYE TO FUR

Redesigning the business model means adapting the operations of a Maison de Couture to the changing times requiring natural evolution, not sacrificing the quality of design and creativity, but taking advantage of new technologies to guarantee the same artisanal know-how. In respect of this instance, in May 2021 Valentino announced a ban on fur. The last collection to include it is, in fact, FW 21/22; from 2022 the material won't be used by the Maison ever again. A business choice that fits with the conscious driven approach of the Maison, which gives research on alternative materials and their sourcing the task to position the Maison in a growingly sustainable present.

THE BAN ON ALPACA

Innovation and social responsibility have always been fundamental values for the Maison. Aligning with this conscious-driven approach, Valentino has chosen to interrupt the employment of alpaca fibre in a move that represents an important achievement as a commitment to safeguarding the environment and its inhabitants. The Sudamerican camelid wool was, in fact, used for the last time for the making of the SS21 collection. This resolution represents a further step towards the path to sustainability undertaken by the brand; the following one will consist in entrusting to new instruments and methods the task of exploring fresh, ethical and forward-looking frontiers of creativity.
